Ships History

The USS Constellation is named after a proud line of ships. It is a name passed down through history.

1797 through 1853 First American vessel to launch. Also the first to engage, defeat and capture an enemy ship.

1855 through 1933 Second ship to bear the name. This ship was a sloop-of-war and the American Flagship for the African Squadron, where they disrupted the slave trade from that continent. (It has been restored and floats in Baltimores’s inner harbor as a museum piece.)

1961 through 2001 The third ship to carry the name was a super carrier with the vessel number CV-64. She served her country for over four decades. She was named as “America’s Flagship” by President R. Reagan.
